1. Program Philosophy
Based on the sustainable development strategy of Egypt Vision 2030 (agricultural development axis), the idea of incorporating the sustainable agriculture program within the distinguished programs of the Faculty of Agriculture emerged as a launch for sustainable development in the region, entrenching this culture, and expanding the concept of sustainable development to achieve the desired goals in all agricultural specialties in reality.
The strategic goal of the seed sector (seeds, saplings, and seedlings) is to reach high-quality seeds under a legislative system that regulates the introduction, registration, production, and circulation of crop seeds to achieve growth in the agricultural sector.
The sustainable agriculture and seed production program aims to graduate students who have a sufficient understanding of the basics of life sciences and the role of sustainable agriculture in various scientific and practical disciplines to maximize the opportunities for these graduates in the labor market. Graduates of this program will have received an appropriate amount of theoretical knowledge and acquired the practical skills necessary to work in agriculture, seed production, and propagation. They will also be equipped with the necessary skills to use and understand computer applications in sustainable agriculture and be able to work within a research team, participating in various applied and research tasks alike.
2. Program Vision
The program seeks to achieve leadership and excellence in performance to attain a prestigious and distinguished position among agricultural programs at Egyptian, regional, and global universities by entrenching the values of quality in education and training fields and keeping pace with local, regional, and global developments and innovations in the field of sustainable agriculture and seed production.
3. Program Mission
The sustainable agriculture and seed production program is one of the distinguished programs offered by the Faculty of Agriculture. It aligns with Egypt's 2030 sustainable development plan, focusing on the second goal, which is ending hunger and promoting sustainable agriculture. The program is designed to prepare graduates who are qualified to compete in the labor market in the field of seed production and the application of sustainable agriculture strategies by providing advanced educational and training courses in this field.
4. Program General Objectives
The bachelor's program in sustainable agriculture and seed production aims through good vocational training to:
- Qualify and train graduates in agricultural production fields, equipping them with scientific and professional knowledge and skills, and preparing competitive graduates with good skills in analyzing and solving problems facing sustainable agricultural production and ecosystem issues including water, soil, and agricultural resources, and applying advanced technology in a sustainable manner.
- Equip graduates with the knowledge and skills that enable them to excel, innovate, and invest in agricultural production fields and provide technical consultations for sustainable agricultural development in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the surrounding region.
- Provide skills qualified for working in agricultural production in the Canal Region governorates (Ismailia, Suez, Port Said) and new expansion areas in Sinai to increase agricultural area and protect lands from desertification, which falls within major national developmental projects, enhancing employment opportunities for program graduates.
- Prepare graduates capable of competing locally and internationally in applying strategies and practices of sustainable agriculture to adapt to climate changes and achieve food security.
- Build communication and cooperation channels with ministries, companies, agencies, and Egyptian institutions related to agricultural production as well as similar foreign scientific bodies to exchange expertise and information, serve the community, and develop the surrounding environment.
5. Fields Available for Graduates of the Program
The program guarantees employment opportunities for graduates in agricultural business companies, organic farming companies and farms, seed production companies, seed quality inspection stations, companies producing seeds of varieties and hybrids for various crops, biotechnology laboratories, sorting, screening, grading, and packing stations for agricultural crops, textile factories, rice milling and bleaching mills, import and export companies, land reclamation and cultivation companies, agricultural quarantine ports, agricultural extension centers, experimental stations, desert research centers, agricultural research centers, and centers for applying geographic information systems and remote sensing in studying the impact of climate changes on the growth and productivity of agricultural crops and national projects related to the development and conservation of environmental and agricultural resources.
